These flight feathers come from the rock pigeons that roost under the A/C units at my workplace.  One of the labs I’m often working in allows the maintenance guys to access the units from the sliding window, so I had an excellent view for watching one particular pair-bonded pigeon couple raise multiple batches of hatchlings this spring.  The babies grow fast, and even when they were basically grown to full size, they would still tag-team bum-rush the father’s beak seeking for food… relentlessly.  To the point of running him right off the roof.  More than once.  I know it’s just instinct and it’s not like the pigeon father is ever entertaining the notion of buying a Harley to cruise off into the sunset or anything, but truly dedicated fathering is always heartening to see in any species.
